Free credit reports are available online. Before applying for any form of credit it is always a good idea to take a look at your credit report so you have a good idea of your credit score. Any defaults that appear on your credit report will damage your chances of getting credit from a bank. It is also possible that your credit report may have errors. If this is the case you should get these errors removed as soon as possible because these errors could also stop you getting credit.

If your credit report is below average then in the present financial climate it is unlikely that the banks will offer you credit. If this is the case then simply apply to a lender that specialising in offering credit to those with damaged or poor credit scores.

Which is the best credit card for me? How can I find it?

Today is the age of credit cards. While many people have landed into deep debts by abusing these credit cards, it is no reason that anyone should be afraid to use them. If you use these cards carefully then you can benefit a lot from them. However, it is important to select a good credit card.

It is not necessary to select the first card that comes in your mail. It is important to take your time and select wisely. Now there are certain characteristics based on which you can compare and choose the best credit card there is for you.

Credit card fees

This is a very important thing that you need to look for in a credit card. Several credit card companies have all kinds of additional charges that they do not tell you right away. You realize that these charges only when your statement comes in.

Hence, you should first be aware of all the possible fees. Do not be afraid to ask if in doubt. Make sure you read the fine print carefully, even if it feels tedious and the sales person is insisting that there is nothing important in it. Usually, these charges are mentioned there. So, you can be aware.

The best one for you would be the one that does not have any fees. Such cards are available if you look for them carefully.

Look at the rate of interest

You should know that a lower interest rate is very important in any credit card. In fact, some cards charge as much as 21% in interest and that too on all your purchases. Hence, you need to be very vigilant about this.

You do not want to land into a big debt simply because you did not know that the interest rate was so high. There are cards that will charge you an interest rate even less than 15%. On the other hand, other cards might even give you still lower rate of interest.

In fact, some credit cards have special offers where they do not charge you any interest at all if you pay back within a month or less. This is certainly a big benefit. So, why go for any high interest card when you can have a card that will charge you no interest.

In case you already have been a good customer for a particular card company then you can request for a lower rate. If you have been good then the company might review your request.

The best card is not the one that will allow you to spend the most. Instead, there are also many other things that you should consider before taking any credit card. Any wrong decision can cause you to fall into the trap of high interest rates, stupendous fees and many other charges that will not leave you soon.

Hence, you should look carefully before selecting any credit card.

Which business credit card is best for me? How do I choose?

A business credit card can be quite difficult to find. There is no reason why you should go through any trial and error to find a good business card. You can find it through these simple steps.

Evaluate yourself

This is a very important step you need to take. You should realize that all businesses are not the same and all business credit cards are not the same. Hence, what works for somebody else might not work for you. Therefore, in order to know what you need, you have to first evaluate yourself.

In case you have a small business then you will not be eligible for some prestigious elite business credit card that has no spending limit or that has liberal conditions and terms. These carte blanche cards might not be your forte.

Therefore, you simply have to evaluate your present business condition realistically. Then you can apply for the right card and get approved easily.

Find out what you need

When you have found out your real condition and your business needs, you will be able to evaluate what you actually need.

You will be able to tell if you really need that high a spending limit or how much you need every month or if you will be able to pay off your outstanding balance within the month and other things like that.

Alternatively, in case you want that business credit card in order to get some extra funds for some big purchases then you might want to look for ones that offer lower rate of interest. Depending upon your situation, you will find what card is the best for you and the one that suits your needs the best.

Do some shopping before buying

You might already know this principle being in business. However, this even applies here. It is better to shop around a bit and look for offers. Then you can compare them and find out the one that suits you the best.

An easy way to do this is online. You can easily compare cards online and find out the one that suits you. Make sure you know what to look for when comparing. Some cards might offer good interest rates; however, that might only be introductory rates. Hence, you should look into that too.

Look for the longer term conditions and other terms.

Make an application

When you do find your ideal business credit card, apply for it. You can narrow it down to two business credit cards if you wish and then apply for it. You do not have to use them compulsorily. However, there is no reason why you should not have more than a single of the best business credit cards for yourself.

Use them well

Just because you have good credit cards, does not mean you can spend recklessly and have no consequences. Therefore, make payments regularly and on time and manage your cards responsibly.

What to consider when choosing a credit card?

Credit cards have become as much a part of our lives as any other accessories have. It is simple to use them and provide us with the ease of handling money and give us the freedom of carrying large amounts of cash on hand.

In fact, if you use them correctly then you will also be able to save a lot on them. With all the present economic crisis and people falling into deep debts because of credit cards, you might think why people use them anyway. However, they are useful if you use them in the right way and do not abuse them. The key is to select the right kind of credit card.

Here is what you should consider when looking for a credit card.

Fees

This is the first thing that you should consider. While people are comfortable with paying fees for a business credit card, they are certainly not willingly to pay even a cent for any other credit card. Hence, you should choose accordingly. After all, when you can have a credit card for free why pay anything for it.

Balance transfer fees

This is yet another type of fees that comes when you transfer your balance from one card to another. In fact, if the fees are high enough then you might not gain anything even if the card is offering a lower APR. Hence, you should consider this factor also.

People actually favor those credit cards that charge no fees on balance transfers, even though they might be having a higher APR. The whole idea is to save as much as you can and hence, people decide according to the savings they make.

Attractive offers

This is one factor that actually does manage to attract enough customers provided the offer is attractive enough. Usually, these offers are introductory offers and last from six to fifteen months; it can be anything from zero percent interest rate or no transfer fees or anything similar.

Life time cost value

There are some people who like to own one type of credit card for all their lives and such people look for value that will last for a lifetime. As a result, they will look for such cards that have a higher lifetime value.

All of these factors are important when you consider choosing a credit card. While some factors may vary depending upon your financial needs and your personal preferences, most of the basic factors that you need to consider are covered here.

Student Credit Cards: On your way to financial freedom

The student credit card is one tool that can spell a new fresh beginning of credit for a student or that can cause him or her to fall into a deep chasm of debts. Banks as well as other financial institutions have lots of offers to attract the student community. Things like zero annual fees, cash back offers, as well as low rates of interest are attractive enough to get any student hooked.

Usually, student credit cards have a lower credit limit. The reason is that often times students fall into the trap of overspending and hence, big debts. Besides, they do not have a credit rating, per say and hence, their rates of interest are also quite high. Besides, most student credit cards require parental consent to exceed their credit limit.

Nevertheless, the student credit card does offer some sort of financial freedom to the student. They can have their say in the spending decisions and this can also be a first test where they can prove their ability to manage their finances well.

This is also a step to understand that you have limits to your credit. This is also a fresh start for a student to build his or her credit as an individual.

On the other hand, this can also be a pitfall for many students. The reason is that easy money seems to be spent more easily. Series of impulsive purchases and not making regular repayments often lands the irresponsible student into an awkward financial situation right at the start of their independent life.

Student credit cards have a lot to offer also. They have several great offers such as a zero percent rate of interest for the initial six months. This can be really great. Besides they also have zero percent liability for any unauthorized charges to their card. This means that in case somebody else uses their card without their permission they will not be held responsible.

Most of these student credit cards also offer reward schemes involving points. Such schemes allow you to collect points when you make a purchase. When you have collected some specific points, you will be able to exchange them for some gifts or cash as per the conditions of the credit card company. You can get anything from CDs, DVDs, movie tickets to many more gifts.

Then there are other rewards such as extra points for shopping at some specific stores, video rentals, record stores, book stores, restaurants and many other places that students often frequent.

Thus, the student credit card has a lot to offer and it depends upon the student to use it or to abuse it.

Maximizing cash rebates with credit cards

You can combine different cash rebate credit cards in order to maximize any cash rebates that you earn. First, you will need to learn the different kinds of cash rebate credit cards.

First type is what I like to call the “no-frills, basic” cash rebate credit card. It will pay you one per cent standard on your spend.

The second one is your “everyday purchase” rebate card. It will pay you more than the standard one per cent on purchases such as those made at drugstores, gas stations, standalone supermarkets, which can be termed as everyday purchases. On any other purchases you will be paid the standard rate.

The third type of cash rebate credit cards is the “tiered rebate” cards. These will pay you more than the standard one per cent, but only after you spend more than a predetermined amount annually. Some will require you to carry some minimum balance if you want to earn some “maximum rebates”, while others will give you less than one per cent if you spend below some threshold.

Now, if you want to maximize your cash back then you will first have to understand that your spending is divided into one, “everyday purchases” and second, “other purchases.”

If you have a simple basic cash back card then you will earn no more than one per cent on your everyday purchases. Instead you can earn more than that by taking the “everyday purchase” card.

Sometimes, the tiered cash back cards are quite complicated. Hence, most people avoid using them. Nevertheless, there is one thing about these types of cards and that is that it causes you to get more than the standard one per cent rebate on your “other purchases”. You do not get this on your basic or “everyday purchase” cards.

Therefore, you can earn maximum by combining the “everyday purchase” credit cards with the tiered rebate card. This will earn you cash back on your everyday purchases as well as your other purchases.

However, you will have to fulfill their conditions first before you can earn any cash back. You will have to exceed their annual spending limit on your tiered card. However, once you do that, you will get cash back on all your purchases; on everyday purchases through the everyday purchase cash back card and on other purchases through the tiered rebate card.

This kind of earning strategy will not work for everyone. Those who do not use their credit cards a lot will have no benefit from such cards. The reason is that you will have to spend at least $6000 in order to earn any maximum rebates. Spending any less will only give you less than one per cent on the tiered cards.

How to select a credit card?

Today we have so many options in credit cards that it is only natural to be confused by the choices. The choices are varied and each credit card has its own benefits and drawbacks. However, the key is knowing what to look for in a credit card.

So, read on and find out how you can select a good credit card for yourself.

The first thing that you need to know before selecting any credit card is what you want. Recognizing your needs is the first step towards selecting a credit card. This is important for selecting out of the several different credit cards that are available.

Next, you need to know the different options that are available to you. You have to be aware of the different types of credit cards that are available in the market. Now there are business credit cards, personal credit cards, cards that have special offers such as airline miles, reward points, cash back and others.

You can select accordingly. If you own a business, then you might look for a business credit card; otherwise it is more of a necessity instead of a luxury. Then there are cards that offer rewards. You can earn points when you purchase and then you can collect these points and earn rewards in the form of gifts.

Some cards will offer you cash back on specific purchases. You can earn about one to five percent through cash back. Besides that, there are also discounts on several purchases.

In case you are a frequent air traveler, then you might want to take the credit card with the feature of airline miles. You can earn few free miles every time you travel. However, this holds for specific airlines only.

Then there are the secured credit cards that are prepaid credit cards. Thus, you are not borrowing from any financial institution, rather you are simply using your own money.

You can compare credit cards online through different comparison websites also. They are easy to use and understand.

After you have selected the type of credit card you want, you can then go to the next step and find out the best among that particular type of credit card. First, you can look at the interest rates. Credit cards that charge a high rate of interest can land you in trouble with big debts.

Then consider balance transfer conditions. While some credit cards charge heavy fees on balance transfers, some offer it for free.

There are credit cards that charge an annual fee for using their card. This is simply out of the question. There is no need to pay any such fee when you can have any other credit card for free. It is important to read the terms and conditions carefully

Credit card debts are one of the worst kinds of financial debts. They keep on growing and seem to be endless if you keep making no more than minimum payments. On top of it, if you happen to miss a payment or make a late payment then all hell is set loose on you in the form of late fees, additional charges and not to mention, hiked rate of interest.

All this simply makes it close to impossible to pay back these debts. However, you can say good bye to these debts through these tips. So, read on and start off on your way to becoming debt free.

Usually, credit cards with lower interest rates have varying interest rates for different services. This means that balance transfers might be offered at zero percent, while cash advances might have 20 per cent. Therefore, you should know the main use of the credit card in order to select one.

Variable rates and fixed rates

The interest rates can be either fixed or varying. Usually, fixed rates are the better option for people who generally have an outstanding balance on their card.

Then there can be different rates of interest for different balances. For example, the same card may be taking a nine percent rate of interest for balances lower than $600 while it might be charging 15% rate of interest for balances more than $1000.

Introductory offers

You should always be careful that the low interest is not only for a fixed initial period. If you do not take care then you might get a rude shock when you see the interest rate increasing overnight.

Cash back offers

Several low interest credit cards also offer cash back on certain purchases. This cash back can be from one to five percent. Hence, if it suits you then you can make use of this option also.

Fees on balance transfers

In case you own several cards and you are considering consolidation, then such low interest credit cards are a great option. However, you have to check to see if there are any extra fees on balance transfers. You can find cards that offer you balance transfers without any charges and also allow you zero percent APR on that balance transfer. This can be especially useful when you are looking towards saving as much as you can and reducing your debts.

Annual fees

Certain credit cards will charge you hefty fees for using their credit card annually. However, most low interest credit cards will not charge you any fees at all. Therefore, you should look for the ones that will not cause a lot of burden on you.

Today’s world has become fast paced and everyone wants instant gratification, whether it is fast food or instant messaging, people want things fast. That is the reason instant approval credit cards are so much in demand.

First, what are these credit cards about? Well, that is simple to understand because the name itself suggests it. These cards are approved in as less as a few seconds. You can complete an online application for the credit card and the company will decide immediately if you are qualified to receive the credit card, depending upon the information you provide.

Now, there is no guarantee that you will be approved. These are not secured credit cards. As a result, you will have to show your credit report and on that basis you will be approved or rejected. Therefore, if your credit rating is not very good then you have lesser chances of being approved.

Sometimes, some people do not receive as instant an approval as they would have desired. It might take some time, may be a week or two, but not more than that and that much time is still less than any other credit card approval. At times, the credit card company will require some more information than you have already provided. In such a case, they will inform you regarding the same and then if you qualify, you will get your approval within a week.

Now, a misconception about instant approval credit cards is that you can begin using the card as soon as you get approved. However, this is not the case. You will have to wait until you receive your card by mail and only then you can begin to use it. This will take around a few weeks. Now, the typical credit card takes around eight weeks to come. Therefore, this card is still faster.

The instant approval card will look no different than your traditional credit card. There is no difference other than the speed at which you receive it. It will offer you the same advantages that any other typical credit card will offer such as purchase protection, travel insurance as well as extended warranty coverage.

Now there can be certain drawbacks to an instant approval credit card. Some of these cards charge some assessing and processing fees. Therefore, you might have to shop around a bit in order to find a good deal.

Therefore, if you do not really need your credit card that fast then you can wait and apply for the typical credit card.
